Thunder and Lightning Information:
We must realize that safety comes first! As a matter of policy, in WASA:
- Thunder equals lightning. If you hear thunder, stop your game. If you see lightning, stop your game. Follow the recognized procedures in Ohio North; either wait 30 minutes before re-starting, or apply the rules of competition appropriate for the league or tournament where you are officiating.
- At multi-field facilities, if one referee stops a game, everyone else stops too. We cannot allow situations where parents or coaches question the decision of one referee because someone else has a different opinion or has given in to pressure.
To repeat, effective immediately in WASA
THUNDER EQUALS LIGHTNING
IF ONE REFEREE STOPS A GAME, ALL REFEREES STOP THEIR GAMES.
Members of the State Referee Committee and certain higher level referees will be monitoring this policy throughout the District and will report those who fail to comply.
